The changing nature of personal mobility needs means that we will need to look at how our infrastructure is engineered and how our cities and towns are designed. With on-demand mobility solutions, the need for city center parking will be reduced, freeing up space for living, commerce or leisure. – Volvo official website
How would it be if you can book an autonomous sleeper cab for an overnight journey and get refreshed for a morning meeting?
How would it be if we can book an autonomous cab for a meeting or mobile office to work on the go?
How would it be if one can book an autonomous cab for a small party
Volvo 360c concept offers an autonomous vehicle without a steering wheel but having potential uses like luxorious sleeping environment, mobile office, living room, and entertainment space. Interesting point is that the 360c sleeping environment enables first-class private cabin travel from door to door, without the inconvenience of airport security, queuing, noisy and cramped airliners. Yes, you read it right. It can be a lounge an office or even a bedroom.
Volvo considers 360c as a potential rival to Air, train and bus travel in terms of comfort, convenience, and privacy. The 360c can be considered a forerunner of the autonomous car renting with first-class experience and multipurpose uses with door to door personal transportation mode.
“Firstly, those exterior flourishes aren’t just for show. The fins at the back are actually an information board, used to indicate a reservation number when the 360c is used in a ride-hailing scenario. All those awkward San Francisco lunchtime moments where four Ubers turn up at the same spot and you’ve no idea which one is yours? Volvo’s concept resolves that problem.” as stated in The Verge.
The Critical aspect that will define the usability of 360c would be the safety during the autonomous drive in between other non-autonomous cars on the road. Technological improvements in autonomous vehicle technology we are seeing today, fully autonomous vehicle are not far away.
We know that the Volvo 360 is a concept autonomous car but still as per my understanding the actual car to be launched, Volvo to take care of the user safety during the below critical situations
- If there is any warning signal to the user in a near possible collision condition
- What happens if there is a real collision and user in the car might be sleeping or having a meeting without any fastening any belt?
- Will the car sensors work effectively during heavy rain condition?
- How much has Hack proof connectivity technology been used here to prevent hackers to control the car movements? At least one shouldn’t get kidnaped by the hacker while sleeping in the car 😊
