I’m excited to see this shift in India. Bosch is betting strongly on localisation.

I believe localisation matters most
At the component level.
Motor localisation needs deeper capability.
It means localising laminations, windings and rotors.
Magnet dependency remains a key challenge.
Controller localisation needs similar depth.
Power electronics remain critical for localisation.
MOSFETs, MCUs and sensors need attention.
India’s supply chain capabilities are strengthening.
Not just assembly, but critical child parts.
Motors and controllers need local depth too.
This matters beyond reducing component costs.
It improves supply security and serviceability.
It also strengthens India’s engineering capability.
But challenges still remain today.
Electronics remain heavily dependent on imports.
Rare-earth magnets add another supply risk.
Lithium supply chains need similar attention.
Government schemes are supporting this transition.
PLI and PM E-DRIVE are important enablers.
Strong players like Bosch are localising.
That strategic direction sends a strong signal.
EV economics tied to scale and supply chains
I see this as a strategic shift.
It’s time for more motor OEMs to localise.
Can India localise motors and controllers?
Can we reduce critical import dependencies?
